2007 Ford F-Series

by Martha Hindes

2007 Ford F-Series
2007 Ford F-Series Interior

Think of a Harley and what image comes to mind? Bet it's a hunk of gorgeous, chrome-splashed motorcycle with that fabled Harley-Davidson logo and a leather clad dominator astride.

For 2007, Ford has put most of its attention on its bread and butter F-Series pickup trucks, keeping the aging, but still respectable midsize Ranger on the sidelines. For full-size truck lovers, that's a plus. There's a wide range of F-Series versions, from the basic F-150 to the SuperCab, Super Crew XLT and, of course, the Harley-Davidson Super Crew F-150 with what Ford calls "street rod appeal."

Ford has pumped up the variety of upmarket adds with a long list of touch-ups for the mid-cycle F-150. Among them are a new FX2 Sport Package for the 4X2 SuperCab and SuperCrew XLT, new grille treatment for the XLT and Lariat models, and standard tire pressure monitor on most versions. Power-folding exterior mirrors become available on the upscale Lariat and FX4 models. A new self-dimming side view mirror is available to lessen headlight glare from next lane traffic at night.

Newly on-scene is an optional DVD-based navigation system with in-dash screen and SIRIUS satellite radio. Six new exterior colors are Pueblo Gold, Redfire, Dark Blue Pearl, Forest Green and White Sand Tri-Coat. Chrome exhaust tips and bug shields are factory-installed options. Additional modules can snap onto the interior's overhead rail system.

Three engines power the F 150: 4.2-liter V6, 4.6-liter Triton V8, and 5.4-liter Triton V8 (with a newly-available flex-fuel version that can run on E85 ethanol. Best mileage is the base XL model at 16/20.

Perhaps the best news is a price cut on F-150 models. With $1,400 slashed from the bottom line, base XL pricing clocks in at a pleasing $19,120. Prices can range to about $40,000 for the top-line F-150 Lariat King Ranch Super Crew 4x4. The fabled Harley-Davidson that joined the world surrounded by the "world's largest gathering" of Hogs (Harley-Davidson bikes), starts at $29,470.

The '07 F-150 has improved towing, now 10,500 lbs. and hauling at 3,050 pounds. That's got to handle more gear than even the most dedicated camping enthusiast could pack in.
