Hyundai Santa Fe

Perhaps the most underrated, or at least underconsidered, compact SUV on the market is the Hyundai Santa Fe. As well built, expressively styled, and well warranted as it is, it's surprising that more people haven't snatched one up for themselves.

If there's one thing that the Santa Fe proves, it's that Hyundai no longer deserves the reputation for quality that it's been battling in the marketplace. Hyundai's other models prove that too, which we've been all too happy to report in the last couple of years. But as this is Hyundai's only SUV, this may be the first time you've heard that if you are an outdoorsy type.

Powered by either a ho-hum 150-HP 4-cylinder, the base Santa Fe starts at about $18K. Add a few options, such as 4-wheel drive, leather seats and a V-6, and the price will rise up to about $25K, which is less than many other compact SUVs, comparably equipped. And although we can't say that it kicks the rest of their collective butts in any particular aspect except value, we can say that it is a good, solid SUV at any price.
