Museum of Women in the Arts

The
Smithsonian is
composed of
sixteen museums and
galleries and the National Zoo and numerous research
facilities in the United States and abroad. Nine Smithsonian
museums are located on the National Mall between the
Washington Monument and the Capitol. Five other museums
and the Zoo are elsewhere in Washington, D.C.

National Gallery of
Art houses
a permanent collection of European and American paintings,
sculpture, decorative arts and works on paper, plus
changing exhibitions of art from around the world.

The
National Museum of Women in the Arts brings
recognition to the achievements of women artists of
all periods and nationalities by exhibiting, preserving,
acquiring, and researching art by women and by educating
the public concerning their accomplishments. The museum
cares for and displays a permanent collection, presents
special exhibitions and conducts education programs.
