Even
though Brazil is the world's fifth-largest country, occupying almost half of South
America, it is just now becoming a more popular worldwide tourist destination.
Brazil is also home to South America's largest city (of 17 million people), Sao
Paulo. It's been said that the hectic pace of this immense city puts New York
to shame. Needless to say, business is big in Sao
Paulo, as it is in Brazil's other big city, Rio de Janeiro. Rio is best known
for its beautiful beaches (think Impanema and Copacabana) and for Carnaval, the
South American version of Mardi Gras (and with the sexy dancing and the ultra-elaborate
costumes, it easily beats its American equivalent).
Travelers
to Rio beware - you must be extremely careful in the
city, since it has had some recent problems with crime.
Don't flash around money, jewelry or anything that
looks like it has value (especially your passport!).
With
that said, enjoy your adventure to this exotic world! While you're there, why
not try to samba with a tanned and toned local? And please don't feel pressured
to wear a thong on the beach if you're not comfortable. Confidence is a must (as
the locals will tell you) when trying to pull off that whole casual bare-butt
