No matter what year the Mustang, it never seems to get stale. Like plots that underscore Johnny Depp's continuing Pirates of the Caribbean persona, there are vehicles that just seem to keep getting better. Or maybe it's a well-cultivated love affair with the idea of it all. Mustang's parent Ford sure seems to know how to keep pulling our emotional chains.

A case in point. Talk to any "Stang" lover at one of those numerous Mustang clubs that flourish around the U.S., and she or he undoubtedly will tell you these pony cars will never go out of style. Ford seems to know that and brings out special renditions between revisions to tease the purists and extremists alike.

And 2007 is no different. The current temptation is a new, lower looking California Special Package on GT Premium models that's not limited to the Golden State. (A lot of that movie star trendiness can transfer to Florida, Maryland, Oregon perhaps.) Look for new front and rear fascias, 18-inch wheels, side scoops, "Cal Special" black leather trimmed seats with contrasting inserts, GT/CS door stripes and a whole lot of sword-wielding attitude.

If some colors seem boring, worry no more. This year's new Grabber Orange Clearcoat Metallic should get attention. Alloy Clearcoat Metallic is an alternative. GTs also can be spiked with an appearance package with bright rolled exhaust tips, hood scoop and a nifty engine cover with Pony emblem to kick start the emotions when someone pops open the hood.

Comfort gets a boost with a new package that features heated seats for driver and passenger, six-way power passenger seat, and an electrochromatic mirror with compass. New auxiliary audio input jack becomes standard on all models. For those who can't live without a video screen, a DVD-based nav system will be a late arrival. In the meantime, SIRIUS satellite radio is available for those who take long trips.

Tire smoking can be the norm under the pulse of the 4.6-liter, 300-HP aluminum V8, with about twice the classic '64 model's punch. The standard 4.0-liter, 210-HP V6 isn't any slouch either. Its best mileage (manual) is 19/28-MPG. And its smokin' good performance can start for a base price of $19,250 (add $745 destination).

With Ford claiming that one out of every two sports cars sold in America is a Mustang, repetition can only be a good thing. We'll bet our Johnny Depp eyeliner on that one.
