2008 ICOTY Awards

Thos L. Bryant Receives Lifetime Legend Award at
2008 International Car of the Year Awards

Tom BryantVeteran automotive journalist Thos L. Bryant, vice president and editor in chief of Road & Track, became the fifth recipient of ROAD & TRAVEL Magazine's (RTM) annual Lifetime Achievement Award.

Sponsored by Crysler LLC, the Lifetime Achievement Award honored Bryant during the 12th annual International Car of the Year Awards (ICOTY) on Jan. 12, at the MGM Grand Detroit.

Through Bryant’s extensive 36-year career as an automotive journalist, he has earned the respect and admiration of colleagues, publications and readers everywhere. Bryant is known throughout the automotive industry as a firm, yet fair writer, representing publications including Road & Track, Pickup Vans & 4 Wheel Drive and special Road & Track editions.

The award was presented by RTM Editor in Chief Courtney Caldwell and Kent Shocknek, anchor of CBS2 News in Los Angeles. Hachette Filipacchi Media (owner of Road & Track) President and CEO Jack Kliger gave a heartwarming speech on Bryant's illustrious career and contributions.

"Tom is a journalist of grit and integrity. He is not only an icon in the automotive field, but a friend to those he meets," said Caldwell during the presentation. "his work and passion for cars symbolize what those in automotive journalism strive towards each day."

Bryant’s love for excitement and vehicles permeates his work, writing and life. Known best for his optimistic slogan, “Every mile is a memory,” Bryant brings an appreciation for life and its nuisances to everything he touches.

A worldly connoisseur of great wine and food, classic jazz, literature and golf, Bryant is most comfortable in Washington State at his second home on Bainbridge Island, where he can enjoy his after-work pursuits. Bryant also spends much of that time with Patty, his wife of 28 years.
