took her grandsons on an adventure — a good old-fashioned road trip
where they explored Ohio’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

After flying Johnathan and Jake to Michigan from California, I gave them just one day to adjust to the 3-hour time difference then off we went to Cleveland, Ohio for a tour of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Music, in my opinion, is the only universal communication that seems to truly connect generations and cultures so what better way to start the journey than with a walk through music’s history showcasing groups that were hot when I was a kid and are still hot today.

The seven-story Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland is only 10 years old but in that 10 years they have managed to fill every nook and cranny with memorabilia from a dedicated section to Alan Freed, the disc jockey who coined the phrase Rock & Roll in the 50s to the history of how it evolved; from the Rolling Stones to Madonna and even mentions of several note-worthy groups of today. My grandsons enjoyed learning the history, looking at the famous costumes and instruments, and especially appreciated the photos and videos of how Rock & Roll has evolved over the years.
During our visit they had just unveiled an entire room dedicated to Jim Morrison and the Doors, a traveling exhibit that doesn’t stay in one place very long due to its popularity. The dead Door, Jim Morrison, seems to have joined the ranks of life after death infamy as his music continues to inspire new generations.

If you love music, which most humans do no matter what age, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a must see and a great generation filler. In fact, we sat through a few documentaries on the history of rock and roll and I noticed that the audience ranged in age from seven to 70s. Old and young alike were glued to the screen soaking up the details of every word ever written, every note ever played.
Just keep in mind that touring this building will take several hours because there’s so much to see not to mention several movies on the history of Rock & Roll, which will undoubtedly send most grandparents on a trip down memory lane. If your grandchildren are ten years or older there is plenty for them to see and experience. You may even be surprised to find how many groups and artists, old and young, that you have in common.
