lake view in Minnesota
Just one of the many lake views in Minnesota

Minnesota is a state of great diversity. From the farms in the state's southern region to the North Shore, where Lake Superior's craggy shoreline meets forested wilderness, Minnesota offers something for everyone. Dotted with hundreds of lakes and snow-covered for half of the year, Minnesota is a nature lover's dream. Ice skating, skiing, fishing, hiking, boating, rafting -- you name it, Minnesota has it in spades.

But let's not forget the Twin Cities, located along the great Mississippi River on the state's east side. Minneapolis and St. Paul are major business destinations -- and with an abundance of area hotels and convention space, there's no better place to do business in the Midwest!

Minneapolis has amazing theatre attractions, boasting more theatre seats than any other city after New York. It has numerous historical and cultural attractions, and has recently become a worldwide shopping destination. Add to the mix that Minneapolis has been named one of the nation's safest cities, and was declared the country's fourth best city for women by Ladies Home Journal magazine, and you've got a world-class city worth taking the time to explore!

Check out the Minnesota Office of Tourism website, an amazingly comprehensive resource for anyone thinking of visiting the state. You can plan your trip right from your computer and can even correspond with Minnesota travel counselors online! www.exploreminnesota.com

Historical Note: Minnesota gets its name from minisota, meaning "sky-tinted waters." Centuries ago, that is what the Dakota named the river now called the Minnesota River. Minnesota has more shoreline than California, Florida, and Hawaii combined! The state is known on its license plates as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes," but Minnesota actually has 12,000 lakes. The world's third largest river, the Mississippi, begins its 2,552-mile journey at Lake Itasca in northern Minnesota.
