Mom,
apple pie, and
Walt Disney World? That's right - few places are as uniquely
American as the 47-square-mile resort in Orlando, Florida. If you're yearning
to celebrate America, and do your part to boost the U.S. travel industry at the
same time, a visit to Walt Disney World may be just what your family needs. You
can stroll down Main Street, U.S.A., participate in a flag retreat ceremony, relive
history with our U.S. presidents, and enjoy a real Thanksgiving dinner any time
of the year. Here is a take-along list of some All-American Disney attractions:
- Main
Street U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom welcomes you to turn-of-the-century
America! Beyond the horse-drown trolleys and nostalgic buildings, you'll find
patriotic music and the American flag proudly displayed in the town square. Visit
at 5:00 pm for the daily Flag Retreat Ceremony, complete with a color guard, music,
and flock of white doves. On Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays, the Main Street
Philharmonic performs. Veterans may inquire at City Hall about assisting in the
flag retreat.
-
Liberty
Square is just down Main Street, U.S.A. Once inside, you step back
further in time to Colonial America-note the majestic Liberty Tree hung with 13
lanterns representing the original colonies. Behind the live oak tree is a replica
of our Liberty Bell, and it really rings! Be sure to pay a visit to The Hall of
Presidents, presenting a stirring, patriotic view of our past. The 20-minute show
features lifelike Audio-Animatronics figures of every U.S. president, including
President George W. Bush. Liberty Square is also home to the Liberty Tree Tavern,
a Colonial-style inn serving casual lunches and Thanksgiving-style dinners with
all the trimmings. At
the American Adventure at Epcot, Ben Franklin
and Mark Twain take you on a patriotic tour of U.S. history. Along the way they
pick up Susan B. Anthony and Martin Luther King Jr. to recreate famous American
events. The 30-minute show includes an inspiring film with an amazing score. Before
the show, catch a performance by the "Voices of Liberty" or "American
Vybe" singing groups. Let's not forget the Spirit of America Fife and Drum
Corps outside the show-they perform Thursdays-Mondays.
- Walt
Disney, who would have turned 100 this year, sums it up best. "Recently I
was invited to see a show on America, and as I sat there watching and listening
I felt both proud and thrilled; thrilled with the voices; thrilled with the sounds;
proud of the group of one hundred talented young Americans singing about our country.
The songs that made me proud of being an American." Walt Disney World is
the biggest and best show on America you'll find
and we invite you to make
it a part of your family's history.
