Wynn Las Vegas' Spa

Wynn Las Vegas' Spa - No gamble here

by Anne Dimon

Amidst the collection of architectural monuments that have joined this vibrant street party screaming "theme," the new Wynn Las Vegas looks as smooth and sophisticated as the late Frank Sinatra in Black Tie. The fashionably-slim resort sports a satin-black exterior ribbed in white pin stripes, but enter the lobby and you leave the understated at the door. Once inside, there is no mistaking that this is Vegas.

To find peace and calm beyond the clatter of casino, head directly to the spa. Walk with purpose through the avenue flanked with greenery, taking in the color therapy of brightly-hued, floral mosaics imbedded in the floor. If there’s a moment of déjà vu, it may be that you’ve visited Bellagio. There’s a semblance of similarity because the two share a common design team, but while Bellagio is "elaborate Italian," Wynn is less theme, more "timeless classic."

Step off the elevator on the 4th floor to find a quiet space enveloping the top-drawer gym—a veritable Royal Flush of exercise equipment—and steps away, the spa.

"I’m booked for a Good Luck Ritual Massage, a signature 80-minute body treatment,
which begins with the crystal clear tones of Tibetan chimes to clear the mind and
bring the senses into focus."

Enter and you feel wrapped in the color of rich coral accented with a twist of lime. Women in white robes relax on coral-colored leather sofas set out in front of a gas fireplace, bejeweled and embroidered tapestries hang on walls covered in coral-hued rice paper, and thick, floral-patterned carpet cushions freshly-pedicured feet. It looks and feels more like an exclusive ladies’ club than a spa lounge.

Spa manager, Drita Ramadanovic says the goal was to create a luxurious and very personalized setting where guests could feel totally relaxed and removed from the typical Vegas environment—job done.

Steps from the ladies’ lounge, The Wet Area includes a whirlpool, a deluge (think glassed-in shower stall where water rains down on your seated self), dipping pools kept and medium and cool temperatures, plus a steam room and sauna. lsewhere in this mega spa, there’s also a handsome coed-lounge, four wet rooms for Vichy and hydro-therapy treatments, and a special couples suite with its own fireplace.

With 45 treatment rooms in total the spa could feel a bit overwhelming, but the space is so well designed that, surprisingly, it actually feels quite intimate. For instance, instead of one huge locker room—there are several smaller ones each with its own sit-down, amenity-stocked vanity area. his, too, helps create the exclusive club feel.

I’m booked for a Good Luck Ritual Massage, a signature 80-minute body treatment ($250), which begins with the crystal clear tones of Tibetan chimes to clear the mind and bring the senses into focus. Registered massage therapist John Marshal employs deft hands to treat the body to a 50-minutes massage with lemon grass oil. Techniques include those using bamboo sticks and Thai herbal bandles (fist-sized canvas balls filled with herbs). The massage is followed with a face and scalp treatment, before attention is turned to arms, hands, legs and calves. I’d tell you more but the whole experience was so completely relaxing I fell asleep. (When you are a spa writer it is very easy to fall asleep on the job.) The application of peppermint mint tea tree balm applied to feet, and the sounds of chimes announce the end of the treatment and Marshal softly suggests I take my time getting up, drink lots of water and take at least 20-minutes to relax before heading down to the Wynn Esplanade for a little retail therapy. Along with spa-ing, shopping is another Vegas activity giving gaming a run for the money.

You won't walk away from the Spa at Wynn with cash winnings, but by putting your money on the massage table instead of the poker table you will definitely leave feeling like a winner.
