Winter Weather Driving Tips

How to drive safely in winter weather

In addition to installing winter tires, it is essential to make sure that they are properly inflated, rotated, aligned and replaced, as necessary. As outside temperatures drop, the air pressure inside a tire decreases too. Therefore, it is imperative to check your tire pressure weekly during the colder months. Under-inflation will lessen the tire's gripping action because the tread will not meet the road surface as it is designed to do. Check your tires when the vehicle has been driven less than a mile or, better yet, when it has not moved in more than three hours.

By following these simple steps you will be better prepared when Mother Nature strikes. In fact, you will have more confidence and security on the roads knowing that you have the right tires and proper maintenance.

  • Have your vehicle checked by a qualified auto technician
    Slow down in inclement weather
Avoid abrupt movements when braking, accelerating or turning
    Use your headlights
Consider winter tires to better handle snow and ice
  • Check tire air pressure weekly in colder weather
