2007 Sedan Buyer's Guide
by Martha Hindes
No matter how many vehicle types are invented, there's always one staple to come home to. After years of sport utility dominance, roadsters careening around tight curves in show-off mode, and pickup trucks for families, there are real cars with four doors, comfortable seats and separate trunks seeing a rise in popularity again. The sedan.
The reasoning couldn't be simpler. They work. There's no jostling of drinks and munchies as they're handed to the passenger at the back of a cavernous cabin with the hopes nothing will spill. There's no effort trying to wedge oneself into a roadster's bolstered driver's seat so narrow that circulation starts to diminish. A back seat passenger can doze in comfort thanks to a reclining seatback and plenty of stretch out leg room. Driving means cruising smoothly along, instead of bouncing above truck type suspensions.
For smaller families that like long distance comfort, retirees who tour cross-country for weeks on end, empty nesters who can forget the need for sliding doors and flat loading decks, or the commuter who simply appreciates a less costly price for gassing up, this one's for you.
