INFINITI NEW CAR MODEL GUIDE
The ultra brand of Infiniti, derived from Nissan of Japan, expands a line of luxury and performance cars for 2009 with a new generation of designs for the FX sporty crossover utility vehicle (CUV) and a daring drop-top convertible variation spinning off the G37 mid-size luxury sports coupe. In total, Infiniti's Class of 2009 encompasses seven unique products, each posed for high-powered action and packed with high-tech gear and deluxe appointments.
M
Sedan
Infiniti's lead vehicle is a sophisticated, nimble and stylish premium rear-wheel-drive (RWD) sports sedan. There are two editions — M45 and M35 — each with twin-digit tag denoting engine displacement. M45 carries a 4.5-liter V8 notched to 325 hp, while M35 scores the new VQ35HR 3.5-liter V6 rated at 303 hp. Both also offer all-wheel-drive (AWD) traction versions for snow-country markets with M35x or M45x. The 2009 issues show luxury content aboard plus safety technologies like the Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) system, and new Scratch Shield paint, a self-healing clearcoat paint finish.
G37
Sedan
Sensuous styling and a refined cockpit mark the G37 sports sedan, which trims out in four versions laced with the incongruent combination of elegant cabin appointments and sport-tuned mechanical hardware. Motivation comes from the new VQ37VHR dual-cam 3.7-liter V6, which delivers 328 hp through a new seven-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with manual shift mode or an optional close-ratio six-speed manual. Standard traction mode is sporty RWD orientation, but electronic AWD applies to G37x AWD. Other G-sedan models list as the entry issue G37, up-level G37 Journey and the performance-geared G37S Sport 6MT.
G37
Coupe
Infiniti's genuine GT-style hatchback sports coupe is keen in shape and slick as glass, with a 2+2 cockpit and a high-powered engine up front pushing all torque to the big back wheels. G coupes for 2009 stock the VQ-series 3.7-liter V6, which produces 330 hp and ties to two transmissions — a six-speed close-ratio manual stick or a new seven-speed automatic with sport mode, downshift rev matching and manual shift mode plus optional paddle shifters. Other choices include a new four-wheel active steer system (4WAS) and the new G37x AWD edition packing an electronically controlled AWD system.
G37
Convertible
The first-ever drop-top G-car from Infiniti rolls out at the mid-point of the 2009 model-year dressed in stunningly smooth skin and rigged with a three-piece automatic retracting hardtop featuring a coupe-like roofline. Powertrain for the G37 Convertible is expected to be the VQ37VHR dual-cam 3.7-liter V6 employed by the G37 coupe and sedan and tied to the new seven-speed electronic automatic transmission. Infiniti's sporty convertible will also contain enhanced audio and climate systems to maintain a comfortable cabin environment even with the hardtop down.
FX
Wagons
Stretching long and flashing a raked face and curvaceous fender blisters, Infiniti's deluxe CUV looks and functions like a SUV but handles like a sporty car. FX models for 2009 mark a second generation for the series with powertrain choices. The FX35 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 303 hp and RWD or AWD traction. The FX50 carries a new 5.0-liter V8 worth 390 hp and AWD exclusively plus 21-inch super-scale alloy wheels. Each engine links to a new seven-speed automatic transmission featuring downshift rev matching and manual shift mode with optional paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
EX
Wagons
Infiniti says the EX35 CUV possesses the soul of a nimble sports coupe. It resembles the FX35, although the prow looks more like the G37. Platform is the same underpinning G37 sedan and M sedan. The EX35 offers RWD or AWD traction options. Powertrain is the VQ-series 3.5-liter V6 linked to a five-speed automatic with manual shift mode. Ex35 stocks special technologies like the Around View Monitor (AVM) with 360-degree view of the vehicle. And EX35 Journey adds equipment, including a six-disc CD changer, power tilt/telescope steering column and twin-zone climate control.
QX
Wagons
The made-in-America QX56 SUV is ultra-luxurious and vast, stretching over 17 feet long. Despite king-size dimensions and a huge engine, Infiniti's SUV carries user-friendly mechanical hardware so it's surprisingly spry and easy to maneuver. Inside, there's room for eight on three tiers of leather-clad seats. Powering the SUV is a 5.6-liter V8 with 320 hp. Infiniti casts QX56 with RWD or AWD traction. Inside the deluxe cabin, QX56 carries a power-folding seat on the third row, keyless entry and ignition plus voice recognition for controlling the climate, audio and navigation systems.
