Clean Diesel and the Future

Volkswagen Promotes Clean Diesel with Countrywide Tour

Wish to go green without the use of battery power?

Volkswagen does, and the German automaker is leading the way through its educational mobile marketing exhibit on clean diesel and alternative fuels.

Using interactive displays and exhibits, Volkswagen's new Dieselution Tour focuses on current environmental issues, showcasing advances in diesel engine technology, design and performance. The exhibit recently embarked on a four-month tour, stopping at events and locations across the United States including environmental and alternative fuel festivals, auto shows and even the 2008 Super Bowl.

According to Stefan Jacoby, CEO of Volkswagen of America, Inc., the Dieselution Tour's purpose is to share up-to-date information regarding fuel advancements and research.

"Volkswagen of America considers the Dieselution Tour an important informational resource for everyone concerned about the environment and improved fuel economy standards," Jacoby said. "This tour aims to change any outdated perception about diesel technology."

Volkswagen, the leader in U.S. diesel car sales, is working to create not only quieter, but cleaner and more fuel efficient vehicles.

"Once consumers realize that a clean diesel alternative can improve their fuel economy by nearly 35 percent over comparable gasoline engines, we're confident that many drivers will visit their local Volkswagen dealerships," Jacoby said.

The Dieselution Tour's main attraction is a 53-foot-long, double-expandable semi-trailer with exhibits and interactive displays. Elements include a video area, Dieselab with a series of interactive and video displays, a Diesel Heritage history section, an interactive quiz feature and more.

The Dieselution Tour will also feature the 2009 Jetta TDI — Volkswagen's new, 50-state clean diesel offering. The vehicle is scheduled to go on sale in the United States by the spring of 2008. Also available for viewing is a 3.0-liter, V6 TDI Touareg and Volkswagen's oldest American diesel — a 1977 Rabbit.

Signifying Volkswagen's environmental concern, the Dieselution Tour was certified as CarbonFree by the renewable energy leader Carbonfund.org. Volkswagen and Carbonfund.org recently worked together to succeed in offsetting one year of carbon emission from each new Volkswagen sold in the United States through Jan. 2, 2008. Additionally, Volkswagen is working with Carbonfund.org to reforest land in the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley (LMAV) in northern Louisiana, a wetland ecosystem that had been converted to farmland.
