ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first Puerto Rico travel kiosk. |
Travelers in Puerto
Rico can now obtain instant access to maps and information about
local attractions and events throughout the island with new interactive
travel kiosks at select Esso On The Run convenience stores.
Whether
travelers are looking for historic attractions, beautiful beaches,
cultural events, local restaurants or the perfect place to stay,
Puerto Rico's new kiosks provide quick, easy access to details
about the island's diverse offerings.
Developed
by E-Hospitality Central Inc., in conjunction with The Puerto
Rico Tourism Company (PRTC), the free kiosks will provide travelers
with 24-hour access to information in the Puerto Rico Travel Planner,
PRTC's detailed sports, tours and culture guide, as well as full
access to the Internet for additional details. The kiosks feature
a touch screen and printer, so travelers can easily obtain and
print selected information.
"One
of our ongoing goals at the PRTC is to educate travelers about
the wide array of activities available in Puerto Rico, and make
the entire island as accessible as possible," said Milton
Segarra, executive director of the PRTC. "These new interactive
kiosks are a reliable resource that travelers can consult for
directions, last minute accommodations or to find out more about
what's happening nearby."
Designated
staff assigned to each Esso On The Run location will monitor the
kiosks hourly. In addition, the kiosks are equipped with watchdog
software that automatically restarts the system if the computer
experiences difficulties. PRTC expects to have eight interactive
kiosks operating at locations throughout the island by the end
of 2002.
