Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among Americans under 34 years old. Deaths of female drivers have increased during the past 20 years while male driver deaths have declined, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The reasons behind this trend? More women now are licensed than in the past. Also, women drive more miles and are more likely to be driving at night.
