Hitting the Road
How Grandparents Can Entertain
and Educate In One Fell Swoop
DETROIT, June 12, 2007 - Courtney Caldwell,
Editor-in-Chief of Road & Travel Magazine, and her two teenage grandsons will
embark on a 10-day road trip in early July, traveling from Detroit, Michigan to
the New England region via I-80 and I-95,

and
returning through upstate New York, Niagara Falls and Canada. The goal of the
trip, to be documented in an upcoming issue of Road & Travel Magazine, is
to provide readers with ideas and advice for bonding the two generations while
providing an educational experience along the way.
By taking a road trip, grandparents are not only able to entertain their
young counterparts but are also given the opportunity to educate them on some
of America’s history in a way that includes adventure and fun—unlike
sitting in a geography classroom during a warm spring day. Planned stops on Caldwell’s
road trip include the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio, a tour of the Liberty
Bell in Philadelphia, a Broadway play in New York City and a tour of Wall Street
and Little Italy, and a variety of attractions in Niagara Falls.

by GM, the trio will depart Michigan in an all-new 2007 GMC Acadia crossover vehicle,
which will be OnStar-equipped for safety and security on the road, as well as
use of OnStar’s new Turn-by-Turn
Navigation system that ensures each destination is reached successfully along
the 1500-mile journey.

View program that highlights "kid approved" attractions in 36
cities across the U.S., Mexico and Canada, will co-sponsor Caldwell’s road
trip. Created by kids, for kids, Kids-Eye View grants traveling children their
own sticker-book "passport" and offers local suggestions for "Best
Family Outings," "Best Pizza," "Best Educational Activities"
and more.
With so many families separated by great distances in the
U.S. today, it’s becoming more common for kids to be sent for extended visits
to the home of grandparents during school vacations, while parents work or vacation
alone. In such cases, grandparents are often bewildered with how to entertain
visiting children and instead, end up wasting precious time rather than making
the most of it.
As a former
single parent, Caldwell understands the importance of keeping kids busy in order
for them to stay happy and out of trouble. Therefore, Caldwell’s trip is
designed to inform grandparents on ways to keep grandchildren occupied and entertained
on the road without alienating (or boring) either generation.
Lacking
the tech-savvy knowledge that most kids have today, many grandparents are at a
loss at how to connect with their grandchildren. The purpose of Caldwell’s
trip is to serve as a guide for grandparents who are looking for a personal—and
exciting—way to connect with Gen Y.
A perfect way to bridge the
generation gap, Caldwell’s trip will provide quality time together, educational
fun and is sure to be a journey no one will soon forget.
