Nude
recreation is growing in the United States and Canada. During the 1990s the industry
grew 75%.
The
American Association of Nude Recreations (AANR) now has nearly 50,000 individual
members and 267 affiliated clubs, resorts, bed & breakfasts and RV campgrounds.
Half of these are "landed" clubs which have their own grounds and facilities.
Others, called travel clubs, are comprised of groups of people who plan trips
to clubs with facilities or hold other social events to enjoy nude recreation.
In 1992, a Forbes article estimated that nude recreation was a $120+ million a
year industry, including crises, resorts and merchandise. Forbes later reported
that number had grown to $400 million a year in 2003.
Nude recreation enthusiasts are a cross-section of North America, representing
a variety of ages, careers and socioeconomic levels. Typically, members are active,
college educated individuals between the ages of 35-65 who enjoy outdoor recreation
and activities such as swimming, tennis, volleyball, walking and hiking.
American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR), founded in 1931, is the oldest,
largest and most respected organization representing clothes-free and clothing-optional
recreation in North America.
AANR is a gold and silver award-winning member of the American Society of Association
Executives. The association has received three Golden Bell communications awards
from the Hospitality Marketing and Sales Association International (HMSAI) and
two Silver Mercury Awards in recent years.
AANR belongs to the International Naturist Federation (INF), American Recreation
Coalition (ARC), National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC), National
Recreation & Parks Association (NRPA) and Park Law Enforcement Association
(PLEA), Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce, and the Orlando/Orange County
Convention and Visitors Bureau.
